Care guides
Solid wood, wool and linen age well when they're looked after a little. These notes are all most pieces ever need.
Solid wood
Dust with a soft, dry cloth and wipe spills straight away. Keep pieces out of direct sun and away from radiators; wood moves with heat and light. Once or twice a year, a thin coat of furniture wax brings back the glow.
Wool and linen
Vacuum gently with the upholstery brush every few weeks. Blot spills with a damp cloth, never rub. Rotate loose cushions now and then so they wear evenly, and the cover will soften rather than fade.
Leather
Wipe with a barely damp cloth and let it dry on its own. Leather darkens and marks with use; that patina is the point. A leather conditioner once a year keeps it supple.
